The Major Scale

Time to put my practice skills to the test.  I am currently practicing a technique called legato. Legato Workout Sunday 15 min Legato is not the major scale. I will try to play a legato mixolydian. I’ll let you know how it goes. I am learning to play a lick from Terrapin Station. The riff is made up of notes that fall on the mixolydian scale. I am doing it by ear, but also looking a video of Jerry playing Wolf in ‘78.  Terrapin Video Update: It is 9/25/26. I am playing guitar because someone screamed "You Suck"! That's the whole reason I named this blog Grimacing Tide. A dude yelling at you just becomes noise. Bring it on. Uh-Oh. That means I have to practice. Funny word, practice. Whenever I think of it, I think of how boring and frustrating it is to do over and over and over and over. But, I also know the thrill of having it pay off to practice so I can perform.  Here's what I have to be a Sound Engineer: Yeti Mic Lekato Looper Boss M-30 Marshall MG15R Audacity I am also trying to figure out how to proceed. Here's a description of what I want Grimacing Tide to be: It's a mixed media zine, with a blog, pdf's for download, and a YouTube Channel. It features my musical playfulness. Currently I want to loop bass, then rhythm guitar, then learn to solo over those and record it into Audacity. Then I'd like to make it into a song. So I'm basically learning to assemble a song. But I've got to do it playfully and step away when it becomes frustrating. Check out this example: I am trying to play along with The Dead. Again and again. Or hold back? I need a language lesson. I don’t know. I need a book. A book of understanding. A place to hold my thoughts externally. Is this a good strategy? We can make a design. Put it under a stress test. See how it holds up. Analysis: watch a video, tell what you see. Inventory: Start with your drawers. I will use FL old drawers. Inventory: cut out a square piece of brown paper. Get a piece of white paper. Inventory: Find a container with things in it. Examine an item. Write down what an item is. Cut out the words representing the item.

Too busy

I’m reading “When things fall apart” by Pema Chodron. Watch the sun come up. Watch the sun go down. The tides of the sea, hot and cold, these things will go on forever. Look closely, appreciate, open our minds. Is what I am doing ok? What I am do g does not seem right. It does not seem it’s enough. It all needs less. We need depth.
